The Vineyard
The primary source for our 2007 Mendocino County Syrah is the Eaglepoint Ranch vineyard located in Mendocino County, California at an elevation of 1,800 feet. Due to its elevation, temperatures at the ranch tend to be cooler than the nearby Ukiah Valley. As a result, the vines are much less susceptible to heat stress and harvests tend to occur later in the fall giving the fruit plenty of "hang" time to mature on the vine.
Winemaking Notes
After harvest and crush the grapes spent 4 days in cold soak prior to fermentation. The wine was aged in a combination of neutral and new French oak for 22 months. Prior to bottling, the Syrah was blended with small amounts of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah (Eaglepoint Ranch), Cabernet Sauvignon, and Mourvedre to add complexity and depth.
Tasting Notes
The fantastic aromatic nose from this wine features delicious berries, fruit and a hint of chocolate. This is an incredibly approachable Syrah blend that appeals to a wide range of tastes. It features a very smooth taste and is not over-powering in tannins or acid. This is the perfect wine for Syrah fans as well as wine enthusiasts who are still on the fence about Syrah.
