The Vineyard
The source for our 2008 Sonoma County Zinfandel is the Grist Vineyard located on Bradford Mountain at the western edge of the Dry Creek Valley. This certified organic vineyard lies 1,200 feet above the valley and is well known for its iron-rich volcanic soils that result in low yields but highly concentrated fruit.
Winemaking Notes
Warm summer days in the Dry Creek Valley in August led to ripening and harvest in early September. After sort and crush the grapes spent 5 days in cold soak prior to fermentation. The wine was then aged in a combination of neutral and new American oak for 16 months prior to bottling at the end of January 2010.
Tasting Notes
The 2008 Jazz Cellars Sonoma County Zinfandel is a classic Dry Creek Zinfandel with beautiful deep red color and aromatic nose with a hint of spiciness. Tasting reveals nice dark fruit, full mouth feel, spices, vanilla and a hint of white pepper and butterscotch on the finish. This is a smooth, classic, full-bodied wine that represents the best of Dry Creek Valley Zinfandels.
