Bringing the Vision to Life!

Founders & Proprietors
Joe Lazzara and Bob Smith

The beginnings of Jazz Cellars trace back to 2005, a year that marked the inception of what is now Jazz Cellars Winery. Joe Lazzara and Bob Smith, both good friends and neighbors, with a passion for both wine and music decided to try making wine just for fun. The early results were better than expected and as they shared their “hobbyist” wines with friends they received many words of encouragement.

The Inspiration

It was during an annual pilgrimage to the vibrant city of New Orleans, for the renowned “Jazz Fest” that the idea for Jazz Cellars truly crystallized. Amidst the lively atmosphere of jazz, rich cultural heritage, and celebration, Joe and Bob were struck by a revelation – it was time to transform their hobby into a real winery and brand. They envisioned a winery that would not only produce exceptional wines but also capture the essence and improvisational spirit of jazz and other musical genres.

Bringing the Vision to Life

Determined to make their vision a reality, Joe and Bob embarked on the journey of creating Jazz Cellars. They combined their expertise, creativity, and dedication to build a winery that reflects their love for jazz music and fine wine. Every bottle produced by Jazz Cellars is a testament to their commitment to quality and the harmonious blend of art and science, much like a jazz composition.

From Then til Now

Jazz Cellars first begin making its wines in San Francisco in 2006. In 2016 we opened our tasting room in downtown Murphys, CA. The wine-making operations were moved out of San Francisco In 2019 we moved our winemaking operation out of San Francisco and re-located it to Murphys where it remains today.

We’re very pleased with of all of the support we’ve received along the way in this journey to produce small lots of special wines that have been awarded with over 150 medals and awards so far.

And a big shout out to our loyal followers who have helped make this dream come true!
